Delhi man’s car stolen by a stranger whom he drank with, gave a lift; police are yet to identify the thief

A Delhi man’s car was stolen recently by a stranger with whom he had a drink. The man also gave a lift to the stranger who drove away with the car after asking the man to get out of it. The police are yet to identify the thief.

A guy in Delhi experienced a nightmare on Friday night when someone stole his car, laptop, mobile phone, and $18,000 in cash. When this happened, the man, who resides in Greater Kailash-II, claimed to have been “too drunk” at the time, according to the police. Amit Prakash, 30, works for a company on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road. A day later, he went Sector 65 police station in the Haryana city after realizing how much he had lost.

When a stranger joined him, Mr. Prakash made the decision to take a drink inside his automobile. The stranger at Delhi’s Subhash Chowk instructed him to get out of the car, and he did. Mr. Prakash was left alone as the stranger drove off. Then he traveled by Metro to his home.

As the news began to spread, Twitter users laughed and made humorous remarks. One person wrote, “You can’t blame him for not wanting to drive back from Gurgaon!” Another person said, “Typical comedy scene from a Kader Khan/Govinda movie.”

After receiving a complaint from Mr. Prakash, the police opened an investigation under Section 379 (stealing) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the unnamed individual.

The GK-II homeowner complained that after leaving work, he went to the Lakeforest Wine Shop’s BYOB kiosk on Golf Course Road.

“I spent 20,000 for a wine bottle that should have cost 2,000 in an inebriated state. However, the store owner gave me 18,000 in cash back,” Mr. Prakash said in the police report.

“I went to my car and started drinking again after that. Unexpectedly, a stranger entered and asked if he might also join me for some drinks. I complied and extended him a drink,” the allegation said.

The man added that when they approached Subhash Chowk, Mr. Prakash lost consciousness that he was driving his own vehicle.

MR Prakash complied when the stranger requested him to exit the vehicle. He next rode an autorickshaw to the Huda City Center Metro station, where he boarded a Metro train headed back home.

Due of Mr. Prakash’s inability to describe the stranger, the police are using CCTV video to try to identify him.
