The health department decided to take action after learning that patients were being harassed by medical staff members who were treating them for dengue—despite the fact that they only had a fever.
The health government closed many clinics and hospitals in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, for abusing its patients. When it was discovered that these medical institutions were treating people with fever as dengue patients, the health agency began a campaign to shut them down.
Following their admission, the patients from these medical facilities were sent to government hospitals. Officials from the health department also urged people to avoid falling for these physicians and to visit government facilities, where they would receive treatment according to their ailments.
The district magistrate ordered the campaign to be started when it was discovered that people were being harassed by medical staff who were treating them for dengue diseases even if they only had a fever.
Approximately five to six health establishments in the Dhampur and Seohara districts were discovered to be providing fraudulent treatments during a search. Moreover, they lacked the necessary resources to treat dengue.
Dengue rates have been rising sharply in the region; in 2023, there were over 76,000 cases, an increase of about 10,000 cases over the year before. Although the figures are startling, they could not reflect the whole story. There have been questions raised regarding the exact scope of the epidemic due to the state government’s choice to hide its statistics from the National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control.
In addition to educating the public about prevention measures, the health service is implementing parricidal and measuress to stop the disease’s spread. Major hospitals are almost at capacity in their dengue wards due to the rising number of patients seeking treatment. It’s anticipated that things will stay this way until mid-November.
Following the filing of a complaint against these establishments, the patients were transferred to government hospitals.
