MS Dhoni had a knee surgery after leading CSK to their fifth IPL victory. Former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has praised Dhoni for his strength and dedication.
MS Dhoni knew it would be tough for him to play another IPL season. But, he said he would do it as “a gift” for his fans who later learned what the CSK captain had gone through during the IPL. Dhoni had knee surgery shortly after leading CSK to their fifth IPL victory by defeating Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final.
Dhoni’s knee issue was known during the 16th IPL. He was hobbling and hesitant to try for the fast double, but the severity of the injury was just recently revealed.
Dhoni travelled to Mumbai from Ahmedabad to meet with BCCI medical panel member and sports orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, after the final on Monday. Dr. Pardiwala has done surgeries on several leading Indian cricketers, including Rishabh Pant.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Dhoni had a successful knee surgery a Mumbai hospital on Thursday.
Former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, a CSK supporter, praised Dhoni’s strength and dedication after his knee surgery. Sivaramakrishnan called Dhoni a “warrior” who played the entire season on “one leg” without letting discomfort affect his “clarity of thoughts”.

Dhoni was released from the hospital following “arthroscopic repair” keyhole surgery.
He returned to Ranchi after hospital release. Before intensive rehabilitation, he would rest at home. “He should have enough time to get fit for the next IPL,” another CSK management insider claimed.
