A new fashion debate is developing at the Cannes Film Festival. Fashion influencer Nancy Tyagi has come under fire from singer Neha Bhasin for allegedly stealing the stitching of her beige ensemble from the renowned event.
According to Bhasin, the outfit was not homemade, as Nancy claimed, but purchased from a Mumbai-based designer store.
Neha Bhasin criticizes Nancy Tyagi on social media
By sharing several Instagram Stories, Neha Bhasin ignited the controversy by drawing attention to the uncanny similarity between Nancy’s Cannes ensemble and a dress she had previously worn to a concert. Neha posted a side-by-side collage with the caption “Same Same,” suggesting that the design wasn’t unique.
Bhasin said both ensembles were from The Source Bombay, a well-known fashion retailer in Bandra specializing in custom-made and rental clothing. “I rest my case,” she wrote at the end of her post.
Bombay Verifies That Nancy Bought the Dress. The Source Bombay’s founder and stylist, Surbhi Gupta, acknowledged in an interview that Nancy had purchased the dress from them.
“She purchased the outfit from our Mumbai branch for ₹25,000. While she’s free to use it as she likes, it’s misleading to say she made it herself. It was not a collaboration or barter; it’s entirely our design. The cape, however, seems to be her creation,” said Gupta.

Later, Neha addressed the incident on Instagram, clarifying that she was upholding the integrity of creative work rather than insulting Nancy. “This has nothing to do with discrediting another woman. It’s about appreciating the effort that goes into each product. She said, “The Source Bombay’s efforts shouldn’t be erased by someone else taking credit because it grew from a garage into a thriving business.”
She advised followers to give credit where credit is due rather than accepting viral narratives at face value.
Nancy Tyagi’s Statement Regarding Her Cannes Outfit
At the 78th Cannes Film Festival, Nancy Tyagi made her second appearance, wearing a beige outfit that immediately attracted attention. Because of its weight, she labored on the garment “until the last minute,” posting on Instagram that it took over a month to stitch.
The ensemble was adorned with a silk minidress with a plunging neckline, tassels, pearls, and crystals. A striking floor-length cape with billowing sleeves was worn with it. OTT nails, a purse, showy rings, and ear cuffs were among Nancy’s elaborate gold accessories that finished the ensemble.
The conflict between Nancy Tyagi and Neha Bhasin brings up more general issues like openness, authenticity, and credit in the fashion industry, particularly in the era of social media influencers. As the story unfolds, it’s a reminder to recognize and respect the origin of artistic creations.
