Urvashi Rautela and Nandamuri Balakrishna’s energetic dance moves in Dabidi Dibidi, a song from their latest film Daaku Maharaaj, have sparked an unexpected controversy on social media. The choreography by Shekhar Master has been heavily criticized by netizens, who labeled the moves as ‘crass’ and ‘vulgar.’ In the wake of the backlash, Urvashi has now addressed the criticism, expressing surprise at the negative response the song has received.
While speaking in an interview, Urvashi shared that neither she nor the team anticipated such a reaction. She explained that they believed the song would be well-received and did not expect it to generate such discussions. According to her, Dabidi Dibidi was designed specifically for Nandamuri Balakrishna’s fans, with every lyric crafted to resonate with their preferences.
Reflecting on the production process, Urvashi Rautela pointed out that rehearsals went smoothly and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Having previously worked with choreographer Shekhar Master, she felt comfortable with the process, making this her fourth collaboration with him. “When you look at my rehearsal clips, everything went really well. It was like how we usually choreograph for any song. I wasn’t shocked or doing something completely unfamiliar. Everything was smooth and under control during rehearsals,” she explained.
Despite the controversy, she remains taken aback by the intensity of the criticism. “Honestly, everything happened so suddenly that it’s been hard to assess why people are reacting this way. We didn’t realize it would be received like this because, during rehearsals, everything went as planned,” she added.
The debate around Dabidi Dibidi continues, with fans and critics divided over the choreography’s intent and execution. While some argue that the dance fits the film’s high-energy appeal, others believe it crossed a line. Whether the controversy will impact the film’s success remains to be seen, but for now, Urvashi stands by the team’s vision for the song.
