Diljit Dosanjh Fires Back: Responds to Rapper Naseeb’s ‘You Are Not Punjab’ Remark

Rapper Naseeb’s criticism on actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh generated an answer from him. Posting an image of the “Chamkila” actor sans a turban, Naseeb claimed that Diljit “doesn’t know how to tie a turban” and hence doesn’t deserve to be called a Punjabi.

Naseeb posted a purported photo of Diljit, a singer from Punjab, that featured him with short hair. The rapper also wrote, “You’re Not Punjab… Make a turban tie tutorial.

Following Diljit’s capture of the spotlight for the “largest ever Punjabi show outside India,” Naseeb posted about the singer. Over 54,000 spectators witnessed his Dil-Luminati tour in Vancouver last month, when it illuminated BC Place stadium.

Diljit posted an Instagram story remark in reaction to Naseeb’s post. The rapper received a heartfelt message from the actor-singer in Punjabi, “Veere, baut pyar tuanu (Brother, love to you).” He prayed for Naseeb to succeed and thought about how all people are made in the image of God.

Following Diljit’s message, Naseeb wrote another in which he indicated that Diljit was merely expressing his opinions and that he will remove it later.

There have previously been concerns expressed regarding Diljit’s purportedly short hair. Many questioned the actor’s short hairstyle and wondered if Diljit had chopped it off for the movie when the first image of his most recent project, “Amar Singh Chamkila,” was shown. This wasn’t the case, as director Imtiaz Ali made clear, and the actor wore a wig for the movie.

“I don’t want to reveal any personal information about him, but Diljit has worn a wig. That wig just resembles his turban. He hasn’t given up a hair for this movie. Given that he was playing a character and was aware of Chamkila’s appearance, he was able to pull off the look with a wig. Imtiaz Ali told Radio Nasha, “He wore the look very sincerely and with very good intentions.”

Everyone is admiring Diljit’s portrayal of the late Punjabi artist Amar Singh Chamkila in his most recent film, “Amar Singh Chamkila,” which has garnered a lot of praise.
