Director of ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana 2’, Sangeeth Sivan, Passes Away from Cardiac Arrest

Sangeeth Sivan, a director best known for the Malayalam hit “Yoddha” and the Hindi films “Apna Sapna Money Money” and “Kya Kool Hain Hum,” passed away on Wednesday at a local hospital following a heart arrest. He was sixty-five.

Santosh Sivan, his brother and cinematographer, sent PTI a WhatsApp message confirming Sangeeth’s passing. Santosh claims that Sangeeth passed away from a heart attack after being admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He also mentioned that the last ceremonies will be held on Thursday at 4 PM at the Oshiwara cemetery.

A debut in the Malayalam film “Vyooham” (1990) starring Raghuvaran and Urvashi marked the career of Sangeeth, the eldest of filmmaker Sivan’s three boys.

He directed the well-known 1992 Malayalam blockbuster “Yoddha” featuring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, among other films down south. He and the actor got back together for the films “Nirnayam” (1995) and “Gandharvam” (1993). His first Hindi feature film was “Zor” (1998), starring Sunny Deol and Sushmita Sen. His Hindi directing credits include “Ek – The Power of One”, “Click”, “Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne”, and “Yamla Pagla Deewana 2”.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed sorrow at the actor’s passing. The actor Sunny Deol, who collaborated with Sangeeth on the films “Zor” and “Yamla Pagla Deewana 2” alongside his brother Bobby and father Dharmendra, expressed his shock upon hearing of his friend’s passing.

I’m shocked to learn of my beloved buddy @sangeethsivan’s passing. It’s hard to think you’re not with us anymore, but our memories and hearts will always hold you close. He posted a number of pictures of themselves with the director from the set and said, “Om Shanti, my friend, may your family get the strength to overcome your loss.”

Riteish Deshmukh, an actor, expressed his sadness over Sangeeth’s passing. Comedies like “Apna Sapna Money Money” and “Kya Kool Hai Hum” were produced in collaboration between them. “Deeply grieved and astonished to find that Sangeeth Sivan Sir is no longer. I couldn’t thank him enough for Kya Kool Hai Hum & Apna Sapna Money Money. “Soft spoken, gentle, and a beautiful human person. As a novice, all you want is someone to trust in you and take a chance. I’m devastated today; please accept my sincere sympathies to his wife, children, brothers, and other family members. You will be missed, Da! And your contagious laugh! “Rest in Glory.” Deshmukh stated in a post on X.

When he heard about Sangeeth’s passing, Deshmukh’s “Kya Kool Hain Hum” co-star Tusshar Kapoor claimed he didn’t know what to say.

“I’m at a loss for words to express how I feel right now. A kind of mentor who first exposed me to humour through #KyakoolHainHum is no longer with us! I recently had the pleasure of working with you once more, Sangeeth ji, however I will take a long time to recover from this devastating news! I will miss you, sir. RIP! X wrote, “#SangeethSivan #gem,” from Kapoor.

Alongside Shreyas Talpade, the actor most recently collaborated with Sangeeth on the upcoming horror comedy “Kapkapii”.
