Director Vasan Bala has finally addressed Divya Khossla’s accusations regarding his film Jigra. At the time of the film’s release, Diva Khossla, wife of producer Bhushan Kumar, alleged that Jigra was a copy of her film Savi and accused the filmmakers of inflating box office numbers. In a recent interview, Bala responded to these claims, emphasizing that the public can now view both films and form their own opinions.
In the interview, Bala said, “Both films are out, it’s in the public domain. Please watch and make up your own minds. Also, free speech allows everyone to say what they want, even without watching both films. We can’t stop any of that.”
Vasan Bala also took responsibility for Jigra’s underperformance at the box office. He admitted, “The Box Office let us down. As a director, if complete creative control is given to me, then I should also take responsibility for the film’s performance at the box office. In that area, it’s clearly a failure on my part.”
When asked if he would change anything about the film, Bala said, “It’s a film made with full faith and intention. It wasn’t just a project where we tried to match existing trends or box office expectations. The learning from this experience will be long-term, and the goal will be to unlearn everything and start anew. Easier said than done, but I will certainly try.”
Despite high expectations, Jigra struggled at the box office after receiving mixed reviews. It opened with a collection of ₹4.55 crore and took over a week to cross the ₹25 crore mark. The film was co-produced by Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar’s production companies.
