Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya laid the foundation stone for NIPER Hyderabad and Raebareli and inaugurated the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research’s permanent campus in Guwahati, Assam. He dedicated five new RIPANS facilities.
On Friday, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers & Health and Family Welfare Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya virtually inaugurated the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) permanent campus in Guwahati, Assam He lay the foundation stone of NIPER Hyderabad and Raebareli.
Dr. Mandaviya dedicated five new facilities at the Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Science (RIPANS) in Aizawl, Mizoram to the country today, boosting Northeast healthcare infrastructure. He also laid the foundation stone for over 80 health infrastructure units in 7 Northeastern states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura under the PM-ABHIM, PMSSY, and NHM.
The dignitaries included Bhagwanth Khuba, Minister of State, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers & New and Renewable Energy; Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, Assam; Prof. Manik Saha, Chief Minister, Tripura; Keshab Mahanta, Health Minister, Assam; and Lalrinpuii, Health Minister, Mizo MPs and MLAs from the Northeast attended.
At the inauguration and foundation stone laying of three NIPERs, Dr. Mandaviya said, “NIPERs are on the path of making a self-reliant India in the pharmaceutical and MedTech sector by becoming a bridge connecting knowledge, education, research, and business. He added that NIPER is a national leader in technical and higher education, with 8,000 graduates succeeding in their careers. Over 380 patents are owned by NIPER.
The Union Health Minister said “the vision for NIPERs to make a significant contribution to promoting overall human health and well-being in the field of medicine, extending its impact not only nationally but also globally”. He stated that NIPER Guwahati, which has numerous buildings and 10 centers of excellence on 60 acres of land and cost Rs. 157 Crores, shows the government’s commitment to a progressive Northeast and unified nation. He added, “NIPERs will integrate our research, training and manpower creation, which will enable us to provide a sustainable place for our Pharma Industry at the global level.”
The Northeast lacked education, health, connectivity, and jobs, according to Dr. Mandaviya. He added the Union government has worked on these issues regularly. “By developing institutions like RIMS, RIPANS, NEIGRIHMS, and AIIMS Guwahati, education, health, and employment opportunities are being created here, for which people used to migrate from these areas.
The Northeast has made major healthcare infrastructure improvements under PM-ABHIM and NHM. Dedicating 2 units, laying the foundation stone of 49 units, and inauguration of 32 health infrastructure units in the Northeast cost 404.22 Cr.
The Super Specialty Block at Assam Medical College will be dedicated to the country for 150 Cr. The dedication of five major buildings at RIPANS in Aizawl—a Hospital Block, General Hostel Block, Guest House, Resident Doctors Quarters, and Staff/Nurse Quarters—cost 127.34 Cr. These efforts have resulted in more than 725 Cr awarded over 80 units, a major step forward in regional healthcare infrastructure. These projects demonstrate the commitment to building a strong and resilient healthcare system to meet changing population requirements.
Dr. Mandaviya stated the health facilities in the 7 North East states will treat people, train and employ young, and open new pathways to progress. He also praised Assam for creating a grid of cancer treatment centers with Tata Memorial Institute and 14 other institutes, which serves the entire North East.
Bhagwanth Khuba said these new projects supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas” goal. He added the Indian Union Government prioritizes health. Since its founding, NIPERs have graduated over 8000 students, producing a trained workforce. “This pool of skilled manpower will drive the sector’s growth and development”, he said.
The Union Minister also highlighted initiatives to boost India’s pharmaceutical prowess and minimize its reliance on foreign APIs and medical devices. He said three bulk medicine parks are being built and that the Union Government’s PLI initiative for pharma and MedTech was launched.
