On Tuesday, filmmaker Sandeep Singh announced a reboot of the 1989 television series Fauji, which served as Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s breakthrough role. The reboot, titled Fauji 2, will star Vikas Jain and Gauahar Khan in lead roles. However, as per reports Fauji 2 was initially being developed under Shah Rukh Khan’s production banner, Red Chillies Entertainment, with a different star cast and storyline.
According to the report, Fauji 2 was originally set to be produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, with Shah Rukh Khan slated to reprise his iconic role of Lt. Abhimanyu Rai. Pulkit Samrat, known for his roles in films like Fukrey, was cast as Shah Rukh’s on-screen son in the sequel. The project also featured Roopal Tyagi, a popular television actress, as the female lead. Despite the excitement surrounding the return of Shah Rukh to the role that made him a household name, the show never moved beyond initial stages. Though Pulkit and Shah Rukh reportedly shot for the project briefly, it was eventually shelved.
Pulkit said in the interview, “Just imagine, a guy from Delhi, who has come to Mumbai following SRK’s footsteps gets a chance to play his on-screen son in a show produced by Red Chillies! I was lucky enough to shoot with him, and he was extremely kind, extremely humble. He shared his trade secrets with me. He taught me how to own a set and how to use the space around you as an actor. His kind words and his warmth still stay with me. Sadly, the show never took off.”
In contrast, the newly announced version of Fauji 2, directed by Sandeep Singh, will feature Vikas Jain and Gauahar Khan in key roles. Details about the plot and characters are yet to be fully revealed, but it is clear that this version will be separate from the earlier plans involving Shah Rukh Khan and Pulkit Samrat. Fans are eager to see how the reboot will honor the legacy of the original Fauji, which played a pivotal role in launching Shah Rukh Khan’s career in the late 1980s.
We are very excited for Fauji 2, what about you?
