Archana Puran Singh, a beloved actress who gained fame through her successful Bollywood career and later as a judge on comedy shows, has an unusual choice of residence compared to other Bollywood celebrities. Instead of settling in the posh localities of Mumbai, Archana chose to live far from the city’s hustle and bustle in Madh Island. She now owns three bungalows there, but her decision to buy the first one came with significant resistance from her husband, Parmeet Sethi, who initially opposed the idea so strongly that he even threatened divorce.
During a candid conversation on Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiya’s podcast, BHARTI TV, Archana recalled how it all began. She explained, “I got quite a cheap deal back then, that’s how I ended up buying it. Parmeet was someone used to living in flats, like most people in Bombay. But I had grown up in a bungalow in Dehradun, where homes are much bigger. For me, a bungalow couldn’t just be three rooms. If it doesn’t have at least six or seven huge rooms, it isn’t even a bungalow.”
Archana Puran Singh revealed that Parmeet Sethi was reluctant at first and even tried to dissuade her. “He said, ‘If you’re talking about purchasing one, I’ll allow it,’” she shared, laughing at the memory of how he seemed to be giving her “permission.” However, his stance became firmer when she considered buying more than one. “He told me, ‘If you’re planning to take two, then I’m divorcing you.’ I told him, ‘I don’t care, divorce me or not, I’m buying the bungalow.’ When he realized how serious I was, he finally gave in and said, ‘Okay, fine, let’s buy it.’”
Parmeet admitted that while he was initially against the idea, his perspective changed once he got involved in designing the bungalow. He explained, “Eventually, I started to like it. What really sold me was the drive back home after work. It was so peaceful and relaxing. I thought to myself, I could do this every day, not just on weekends.”
The couple’s initial plan was to use the bungalow as a weekend retreat while living in their Andheri flat. However, Parmeet Sethi was the one who suggested moving into the bungalow full-time. Archana Puran shared, “When he asked me to move there, I jumped at the idea. After all, I’m a bungalow person.” This shift turned their weekend home into a permanent sanctuary, blending Parmeet’s love for serenity with Archana’s childhood memories of spacious living.
