The love story of Boney Kapoor and Sridevi wasn’t born in ideal circumstances, nor did it follow a smooth path. It unfolded during a time of great emotional upheaval and societal judgment, making it one of Bollywood’s most talked-about romances.
At the time, Boney Kapoor was already married to Mona Shourie Kapoor and was a father to Arjun and Anshula Kapoor. His affection for Sridevi, however, stirred deep waters both personally and publicly. When he first confessed his love to the iconic actress, she was stunned. In Boney’s own words, “It took me nearly five or six years to convince her. When I proposed, she was shocked and asked me, ‘You’re married and have two kids, how can you even say this to me?’ After that, she didn’t speak to me for six months.”
Their bond, however, began to shift in 1995 when Sridevi’s mother fell critically ill. During this challenging time, Boney Kapoor stood by Sridevi with unwavering support. His compassion didn’t go unnoticed. “Sri had begun drawing towards me,” he later shared, describing the emotional connection that slowly formed between them.
For Mona Kapoor, the situation was devastating. She not only faced the pain of a crumbling marriage but also the betrayal of a friend. Yet, Boney chose to confront the situation head-on. “I have always believed in honesty, and I told Mona everything. Love is never perfect, and sometimes, emotions are beyond our control. But I made sure to be transparent about my feelings.”
On June 2, 1996, in a quiet ceremony in Shirdi, Boney Kapoor and Sridevi tied the knot. Their love found its place, eventually blessed with two daughters—Janhvi in 1997 and Khushi in 2000—marking a new chapter in their lives, forged through trials, truth, and time.
