Sunny Deol, one of Bollywood’s most iconic actors, has recently shed light on the workings of industry ‘camp’ and how they influenced his career trajectory. Despite being a household name, Sunny faced challenges after his stint as a leading man in the 80s and 90s, only to make a triumphant comeback with Gadar 2.
In a candid interview, Sunny Deol spoke about the prevalent camp culture in Bollywood, highlighting how these groups often work with individuals who conform and offer flattery. He remarked, “The reality of life is that there are camps everywhere. Camps basically go with people who are a part of the camp, who will do… ek doosre ki chamchagiri karo.”
Sunny emphasized his straightforward nature, attributing it to his upbringing as a Jat. He explained, “We are Jats. Whatever we do, we do without fear. We don’t shy away from anything, and we are truthful. But people don’t like that.”

Reflecting on his struggles, Sunny said, “Big production houses didn’t offer me roles either. That’s when I decided to establish my production label.”
He elaborated on the challenges of building a career outside these circles, stating, “When you are talented, you can create opportunities. That’s how I became a producer and started making films. But until someone supports you, you have to keep fighting.”
