The England Cricket Board is reportedly considering retiring the prestigious Pataudi Trophy, the prize awarded to the winner of Test series between India and England. With just over two months left before the much-anticipated five-Test series begins on June 20 at Leeds, a cricket portal has reported that the change may take effect from this very series.
While the exact reasons behind this decision remain unknown, there is speculation that a new trophy bearing the names of more recent cricketing legends from both nations might replace the existing one.
When approached for a comment, a spokesperson for the England Cricket Board responded, āThis is not something weāll be able to offer you a comment on.ā
As per the report, the family of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the former Indian captain who led the nation in 46 Tests between 1961 and 1975, has already been informed about the decision. A source close to the Pataudi family confirmed the development, stating, āThat is the understanding from the ECB. Trophies are retired after some time.ā
With the Pataudi Trophy carrying a rich legacy in India-England Test history, cricket enthusiasts are now eager to see what comes next as the two cricketing giants prepare for their upcoming series.
