Ex-Ind Cricketer Claims Not KL Rahul But This 18 Crore Player Will Lead Delhi Capitals

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has hinted that Axar Patel might take over as the captain of Delhi Capitals for the 2025 Indian Premier League season. Axar, who captained the team in one match last year during Rishabh Pant’s absence, was retained by the franchise for a whopping Rs 18 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The all-rounder has been a key part of the Delhi Capitals setup since 2019, consistently contributing with both bat and ball.

While Delhi Capitals has yet to make an official statement regarding the captaincy, Karthik seemingly confirmed the development during a segment of a show. The discussion began when Karthik was asked to comment on Axar’s recent appointment as vice-captain of the Indian team for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, along with speculation surrounding Hardik Pandya’s absence from leadership roles.

Expressing his uncertainty about Hardik Pandya’s removal from the vice-captaincy, Karthik remarked that he couldn’t pinpoint a reason for the decision since Pandya had performed well during bilateral series where he held the position. Shifting focus to Axar, Karthik extended his best wishes, emphasizing the opportunity for the all-rounder to showcase his leadership skills.

Karthik added that he had heard Axar would be leading Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL season, describing it as a significant chance for the player to demonstrate his captaincy abilities, as he has successfully done for Gujarat in domestic cricket. Concluding his remarks, Karthik wished Axar luck, acknowledging the importance of the role and the responsibility it brings.

Many people were of the opinion that KL Rahul would be leading DC but it seems that the management has different plans.
