Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif voiced his disappointment over Mohammed Siraj’s behavior during the day-night Test against Australia at Adelaide Oval. Highlighting two specific incidents, Kaif expressed concerns about the pacer’s actions and emphasized the importance of setting the right example for younger generations.
Incident 1: Ball Thrown at Marnus Labuschagne
In the first innings, Siraj threw the ball toward the stumps after Marnus Labuschagne backed away due to movement near the sightscreen. Kaif criticized this reaction, stating:
“That was not the right way. He misbehaved. Kids watch you as a role model, and you wouldn’t want to set the wrong example or tarnish the image of the gentleman’s game.”
The movement, reportedly caused by a fan carrying beer glasses, disrupted Labuschagne’s focus, but Siraj’s response drew negative attention.
Incident 2: Send-Off to Travis Head
Kaif also addressed Siraj’s send-off to Travis Head in the second innings. After Head smashed a match-winning 140, Siraj dismissed him but gave an aggressive farewell gesture. Kaif remarked:
“When someone scores 140 on a difficult pitch, there’s no need for a send-off like that. Celebrate when you dismiss him early, not after he’s dominated you all over the park.”
Do you agree with Mohammad Kaif?
