Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar lauded Virat Kohli for his brilliant century against Pakistan in Dubai last week, emphasizing the star batter’s ability to perform in high-pressure situations. Speaking at an event in Kolkata on Friday, Vengsarkar highlighted Kohli’s exceptional talent and his knack for delivering in crucial moments.
Kohli’s unbeaten hundred played a key role in India’s commanding six-wicket victory over their arch-rivals, securing a semifinal berth with a match to spare. India will now face New Zealand in their final group-stage encounter on Sunday, March 2.
Praising Kohli’s match-winning innings, Vengsarkar said, “Virat is an outstanding cricketer, one of the best in the world. Although he hadn’t been scoring runs of late, I knew he would come through in a big match because of his ability to rise to the occasion. He’s got a big match temperament.”
Acknowledging the significance of Kohli’s innings, he further stated, “Not only did he score a hundred, but he remained not out until the very end, which is important for the team. This kind of contribution is very important from a senior player.”
Vengsarkar also commended Virat Kohli’s fitness and dedication to the game, expressing hope that he would continue his stellar form throughout the Champions Trophy. With 651 runs in 14 innings at an impressive average of 93, Kohli has been a standout performer in the tournament.
“I hope he continues this form throughout the rest of the competition. He’s extremely fit, focused and passionate about cricket,” Vengsarkar remarked.
He also expressed confidence in Team India’s overall performance, praising their strong squad composition. “India are doing extremely well in all the matches they have played so far. The team looks strong, with good all-rounders and excellent spinners. We have got a very good chance,” he added.
