Ex Selector Explains Why Virat & Rohit Are Called Back In Indian T20I Team

The senior Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have made a comeback in the Indian T20 squad after a long gap of 14 months and this has certainly raised some questions in the minds of Indian cricket fans.

The last T20I match that Rohit and Virat played was the semi-final match of the T20 World Cup 2022 which India lost to England. As both the cricketers were playing T20 matches in the IPL for their respective franchises and they never talked about taking retirement from T20 cricket, many felt that the selectors made up their minds for playing a young team in the T20 World Cup 2024 and these two seniors were not a part of their plans anymore.

Now after Rohit and Virat have been included in the Indian squad which will play 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan, many are asking as to what has made the selectors change their minds.

The former Indian cricketer and former selector, Saba Karim has tried to explain the situation as he said in an interview, “There is no doubt now. Now that you have included both these players against Afghanistan, it means there has been a massive change in the selectors’ thinking. They feel they need experience for the World Cup. That’s why Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have made a comeback.”

He gave one more reason as he said, “There is another thing. Until now, the selectors had shown faith in Hardik Pandya as a captain but questions are being raised because of Hardik Pandya’s injury. That’s why the selectors have gone back to Rohit Sharma to bring stability, both as a captain and a batter.”
