Divya Khosla Kumar, Meezaan Jafri and Pearl V Puri starrer Yaariyan 2 is slated to release on 20 October 2023 but the movie has attracted legal trouble even before its release.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has lodged an FIR against the makers of the movie for hurting the religious sentiments of a community. The committee is not happy with actor Meezaan Jafri allegedly sporting a kirpan which is a sacred symbol for Sikhs.
SGPC posted a long tweet, here are few excerpts, “We raise our strong objection to these visuals filmed, published in Saure Ghar song of Yaariyan 2 film directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru @SapruAndRao, as actor is seen wearing Sikh Kakaar (symbol of Sikh faith) ‘kirpan’ in a highly objectionable manner which cannot be accepted.”
They have also demanded a ban on the song and the movie as well and initiated a legal action against the makers as only a Sikh can wear the kirpan.
The makers have given an explanation as per which Meezaan is sporting a khukri and not a kirpan. But SGPC has rejected the explanation of the makers saying, “The Sikhs very well know the shape of a ‘kirpan’ and a ‘khukri’, and the way both are worn on one’s body.”
