In a determined effort to promote health, healthcare, and wellness across the country, the social arm of the prominent media agency Times Applaud Pvt Ltd, the Times Applaud Foundation, recently organized its inaugural event focused on the Fit India Mission. The primary goal of this initiative was to raise awareness about health, acknowledge the dedicated efforts of healthcare professionals, nutritionists, and dieticians, and advocate for a healthier lifestyle.
This social initiative of the Times Applaud Foundation works around an objective that makes communities strong enough to do their best for themselves as well as for the country. The Fit India mission event brought together responsible authorities from the healthcare industry, health organizations, key stakeholders, medical experts, innovators, and influencers, on one platform to address the physical & mental health of the nation.
The 2024 award event was successfully held in Mumbai on 20th April to celebrate individuals and organizations dedicated to improving well-being across India. The leading healthcare organization sponsored the event -Appropriate Diet Therapy Centre, co-powered by Rakesh Kumar Jain’s INTRA LIFE Private Limited, Dr Surabhi Dhanawala’s Naturo & Physio Care Clinic. Renowned TV anchor and journalist Shefali Bagga was the esteemed Chief Guest.
The occasion was filled with interesting and eye-opening discussions with experts and leading researchers like Dr S Kumar, Founder of Appropriate Diet Therapy Centre. The man is working round the clock to prove his extensive research about the management & treatment of diabetes and vision to wipe out this metabolic disorder (diabetes).
During the informative discussions and sessions, attendees were educated on the importance of fitness, healthy eating habits, and myths around lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, and cardiac and knee care.
In one such discussion, certain facts about diabetes were engaging. The expert Dr S. Kumar gave a few eye-opening insights on the Fit India Mission panel. He shared valuable insights on how to combat the disease and ensure longevity. Firstly, he confidently said that Diabetes can be mitigated. It is a fully curable disease and it’s not necessarily genetic. Less than 5% of people have a genetic influence. Secondly, Dr Kumar emphasized the inadequacy of relying solely on the three basic tests (fasting PP, and Hba1c), for diagnosing diabetic patients during the event. He stressed the importance of incorporating Advanced investigations like fasting serum insulin, Pancreatic β-Cell Identity, and C peptide should be seen before starting the treatment. Lastly the expert also enlightened and motivated the audience on how to adopt a healthy diet journey.
He advised against the consumption of milk and milk products, opting instead for foods with a low glycaemic index. Additionally, he encouraged the intake of plenty of vegetables and pulses in the daily diet. Dr S. Kumar also mentioned that rice and potatoes are no longer off-limits for blood sugar patients. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of selecting the right kind of cooking oil for maintaining overall health.
