Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary has been named as the new chairman of International Cricket Council and soon after this announcement, the Indian online users started posting funny memes related to Pakistan and Champions Trophy 2025.
CT2025 is slated to be played in Pakistan but BCCI has made it clear that the Indian team won’t be going to Pakistan and has demanded India’s matches to be shifted to UAE or Sri Lanka. However, Pakistan has refused to agree on this arrangement but now it will be interesting to see what happens as Jay Shah will be at the helm of affairs of the apex body.
The 35-year-old, who will be the youngest to hold the position, is set to take over as ICC chairman starting December 1, succeeding Greg Barclay. One of the key events under his tenure will be the Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be held in Pakistan.
There have been speculations about whether the complete tournament will be hosted in Pakistan or if it will be played in a hybrid model, as India is reluctant in travelling to Pakistan because of strained political relations between both the Asian neighbours. Fans have even joked that Shah, currently the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), might move the Champions Trophy out of Pakistan.
