Gautam Adani: India needs green hydrogen to reach net-zero carbon emissions

Billionaire Gautam Adani thinks India needs green hydrogen to reach net-zero carbon emissions. Renewables and green hydrogen may improve energy, urban air quality, and food security, he argues. Gujarat-based Adani New Industries Limited wants to manufacture 1 million metric tons of green hydrogen per year by 2027.

Billionaire Gautam Adani said Tuesday that green hydrogen is the way to India’s net-zero carbon emissions and that copying the solar power model can lower its cost.

In a WEF blog post, Adani Group CEO said renewables and green hydrogen would improve India’s energy security and urban air quality.

Green hydrogen, produced by splitting water with renewable electricity, is a carbon-free fuel used in steel and oil refineries and vehicle fuel, creating water when burned.

“Only backward-integrated companies can deliver affordable green compounds. Adani claimed green hydrogen production needs drop from $3-5 per kilogram to USD 1/kg for mainstream usage.

Given renewable energy’s intermittent nature, Adani said green hydrogen may replace fossil fuels. Vertical integration, when a corporation manages all upstream and downstream processes for its principal offering, could cut green hydrogen production costs.

“India should leapfrog to renewables and green hydrogen, not replace fossil fuels. Low solar prices can be reproduced with green hydrogen. Adani said this transition will increase energy security and city air quality in India.

It will also improve food security by removing ammonia price uncertainty, a vital fertilizer ingredient. The world will have a chance to avoid climate change’s worst effects, he said.

Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) would manufacture 1 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of green hydrogen in Gujarat in the first phase by 2027. ANIL plans to invest $50 billion to reach 3 MMTPA of green hydrogen within a decade.

Conclusion

Indian billionaire Gautam Adani has stressed the necessity of green hydrogen in achieving net-zero carbon emissions. He thinks repeating the solar power concept will lower green hydrogen manufacturing costs. Adani believes green hydrogen can replace fossil fuels, especially since renewable energy is unreliable. He believes vertical integration might significantly reduce green hydrogen production costs. Gujarat-based Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) would manufacture 1 million metric tons of green hydrogen per year starting in 2027.
