Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly pointed fingers at young cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, accusing him of leaking sensitive information from the team’s dressing room during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite his stellar performance in the previous series, where he scored a commanding 150 in a whitewash against New Zealand, Khan was not included in a single Test match against Australia.
The accusation emerged during a BCCI review meeting held in Mumbai to analyze the Australia tour. According to a report, Gambhir claimed that Sarfaraz was responsible for revealing details about the coach’s fiery post-match speech following India’s crushing defeat in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). This incident, if proven, could have long-lasting implications on Khan’s career, especially with Gambhir at the helm.
Earlier, Gambhir Gambhir addressed the media before the Sydney Test and strongly emphasized the importance of maintaining trust and discretion within the team. He dismissed the circulating reports as speculative, stating, “Debates between coach and player should remain in the dressing room. Stern words. They were just reports, not truth.”
However, rumors about Gambhir’s dissatisfaction with the team’s performance had been swirling since the Melbourne Test. A leading daily had previously reported that Gambhir chastised the players for failing to adapt to the game plan, instead clinging to their “natural game.” It also suggested a tense atmosphere in the dressing room, with clashing personalities contributing to the unrest.
The controversy underscores the fragile balance between discipline and harmony in the high-pressure environment of international cricket.
