The IPL 2024 is going to start in a couple of days and all the teams will try their best to start the tournament in a good manner as a good start will make it easy for them to enter the knockout stage.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders is also one of those teams which have not performed well in the last few seasons barring 2021 when they reached the final but failed in lifting the trophy.
IPL started in 2008 and for the first three seasons, KKR was not able to enter the play-offs after which KKR roped in former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir as their skipper and under his leadership, KKR won the two titles in the next three seasons.
For the last two seasons, Gautam Gambhir was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants and the team came third in both the seasons. Now Gambhir has been roped once again by KKR and this time, he has joined the Kolkata franchise as a mentor.
During an event, Gautam Gambhir thanked SRK and CEO Venky Mysore and also revealed that SRK has sent him the same fiery message that he sent him when he joined the team as the skipper.
He said, “Firstly, I want to say one thing — I’m a very tough guy to handle. I have to thank SRK (team principal owner Shah Rukh Khan) and Venky bhai (CEO Venky Mysore) who is here as well… They have taken a lot of my tantrums, stubbornness for such a long period of time.”
He further said, “He only told me the same thing that he had told me when I joined KKR as a player in 2011: ‘This is your franchise, make it or break it.’ He told me exactly the same thing. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I can assure you that whenever I leave this place, we will be in a much better position.”
