India head coach Gautam Gambhir and Captain Rohit Sharma must be relieved as veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s comeback was confirmed on Tuesday. Md. Shami will play his first competitive match in nearly a year on Wednesday, representing Bengal in the Ranji Trophy.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) announced Shami’s return, stating that he would feature in the Elite Group C match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore. Although Shami was not with the Bengal team in Indore at the time of the announcement, Bengal’s head coach, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, assured that he would arrive later on Tuesday to prepare for the game.
Shami has been sidelined since the 2023 ODI World Cup final in November due to an ankle injury. He underwent surgery in February and has been recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. After receiving medical clearance from the NCA, he is now ready to rejoin competitive cricket, marking a significant step in his rehabilitation and return to form.
This is certainly a great news.
