The Indian cricket team led by Suryakumar Yadav is currently playing a 3-match T20I series against South Africa and the Proteas have taken a lead of 1-0 by winning the second T20I of the series which was played at St. George’s Park Cricket Ground, Port Elizabeth. The first match of the series was abandoned due to rain.
Questions were raised on the selection by some cricket fans as the team management dropped Ravi Bishnoi who is currently the number one T20I bowler of the world and included Kuldeep Yadav in the team. The young spinner Ravi Bishnoi performed superbly against Australia and because of his performance in that series, he jumped 7 places and replaced Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan at the top position.
Recently, the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar spoke about Ravi Bishnoi and he reminded everyone that though Bishnoi is the number one bowler at the moment, he also has flaws. While talking with the broadcaster, Little Master stated, “Ravi Bishnoi… still finding his feet at the international level. Yes, he is the No. 1 T20 bowler in the world but again, if you get stuck into him, sometimes you tend to see him bowl faster and quicker. The faster you bowl on a good pitch, it gets that much easier for the batters because the pace is exactly what they are looking for.”
Sunil Gavaskar felt that considering the pitch conditions, Ravindra Jadeja would have been more effective than other spinners. He said, “If there is a bit of turn from the pitch, I think Jadeja will do the most damage. He bowls so flat that he doesn’t allow the batter any chance to go down the pitch and attack him. So if there’s just a bit of assist, his four overs could be telling as far as India are concerned.”
Ravi Bishnoi certainly needs some time at international level to prove himself, what do you say?
