‘This Hundred by Rahul is in Top Ten in Indian Test History’: Sunil Gavaskar Massive Praise For Wicketkeeper Batter
The Indian cricket team is currently in South Africa and in the first test match against the Proteas, Rohit Sharma-led Indian team is trailing by 11 runs by the end of the day 2.
India was asked to bat first and Indian batters fumbled badly in the first innings, thanks to KL Rahul who scored a brilliant century and helped India in posting a total of 245 runs. KL Rahul scored 101 runs which included 14 fours and 4 sixes and his resilient knock made the Indian cricket fraternity go gaga over him.
The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was also highly impressed with the innings played by KL Rahul and he rated it among the top 10 centuries scored by Indians in test cricket. During the commentary, Sunil Gavaskar said, “I’ve been watching cricket for the last 50 years, but I can surely say that this hundred by Rahul is in the Top 10 centuries scored by Indians in Test cricket.”
During the press conference when KL Rahul was told about Gavaskar’s comment and asked to tell his reaction, he started with an exclamatory “wow” and when the question of the reporter got completed, the Karnataka batter said, “Firstly, I’m very humbled he’s made that comment. It’s a pretty huge compliment to get. Batting in the middle order, what I’ve realised is that you can’t really plan your innings all that much when you walk in. There is a situation in front of you. The game tells you how you need to play and what you need to do in that time and in that moment.”
He further said, “That’s what I try to do walk in with a very free and empty mindset when I’m batting and see what the game demands of me and try and do my best. Yesterday and today the situation was quite clear: I am batting with the tail and need to take my chances. I tried to score as many runs as possible so I’m pretty happy.”
India has never won a test series in South Africa and this time also it looks a bit difficult, let’s hope for the best.
