The Indian cricket team has taken the lead of 1-0 in the ongoing 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan after defeating the visitors by 6 wickets in the first T20I which was played at Mohali.
The player of the match was Shivam Dube who played a brilliant knock of 60 runs not out and helped his team in chasing the target of 159 runs in 17.3 overs. However, other than Shivam Dube’s fantastic innings, people are talking about one more thing and that is Rohit Sharma’s outburst over Shubman Gill when the former got run out.
Rohit Sharma played a straight down the ground shot on the bowling of Fazalhaq Farooqi, the ball was fielded by fielder but Rohit Sharma ran as he felt that a single can be taken but Shubman who was standing on non-striker end kept looking at the ball and didn’t move an inch. Shubman got to realize about Rohit Sharma’s intentions when the skipper was standing next to him, Rohit Sharma got angry and he spoke a foul word to Shubman.
Here is the video clip of the incident:
The former Indian cricketer and Sunil Gavaskar’s son, Rohan Gavaskar spoke on this matter on a show. He said, “It was a walkable run. Let’s not forget Rohit Sharma is a kind of a person, forget captain, who doesn’t get angry that often. He is very cool, calm and collective. Now, as a younger player when you see your captain who is normally at equilibrium, blowing a fuse like the way he did, then you are thinking ‘Man I’ve got to do something special’,”.
He further added, “The ball has gone behind the non-striker. Rohit has hit the ball, it’s his call. As a non-striker, you’ve got to trust your partner. 9 times out of 10, the throw won’t be at your end. The fielder at mid-off and mid-on will pick up the ball and have a shy at the bowler’s end. The striker is running at the danger end. The mistake that Shubman made was that he was watching the ball and kept looking at the fielder. He had no idea where Rohit was until he was right next to him.”
Do you agree with Rohan Gavaskar?
