Gavaskar Supports Rohit Sharma’s Statement About ‘Hunger’ In Players

The skipper of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma is a happy man as his team has sealed the 5-match series against England in their name by winning the fourth test match which was played at Ranchi. Now India is leading by 3-1 and it is the winner of the series irrespective of the fact whether India loses or wins the fifth test match which will be played at Dharamshala.

There are some Indian cricketers who are not playing domestic cricket despite getting repeated reminders from the BCCI and the team management and this has irked the management to some extent.

Recently, during a press conference, Rohit Sharma made it clear that only those players who are hungry for playing test cricket will get the chance to play in test cricket. He said, “Jin logon ko bhookh hai, hum unhi logon ko mauka denge. Agar hunger nahi hai to unko khila ke koi matlab nahi hai” (There’s point in playing those who don’t have the hunger).

The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar supported Rohit Sharma as he stated on a show, “He’s absolutely right. The ones who want to play Test cricket, you look at them. I’ve been saying this for years. The players are what they are because of Indian cricket. The stage of life and career they are at, is all because of Indian cricket. The money, fame and recognition that they have got is because of Indian cricket. So you’ve got to show some loyalty towards Indian cricket.”

He further added, “And if you don’t show that for whatever reasons and say ‘I won’t play, won’t play that’ Rohit is absolutely right in saying the ones who have the hunger, the ones who are willing to put the effort, will be given more opportunities going ahead. If this is the attitude of the selectors then it will be good for Indian cricket. We’ve seen many players pick and choose, this shouldn’t happen.”
