Gavaskar Targets MS Dhoni While Talking About India’s Earlier Test Defeats

Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricketer was quite unhappy with India’s defeat in the WTC final which the Indian team lost to Australia. This was India’s second consecutive defeat in the WTC finals as it lost the first WTC final to New Zealand under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. The second WTC final that India lost was played under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

Recently during an event, Sunil Gavaskar took a dig at former Indian skipper MS Dhoni while talking about defeats India faced and the secured position of the Indian skippers.

He stated, “That kind of thing doesn’t happen. Whether you win or lose, the captain knows that he is going to be there. This has not been a recent case, mind you. This has been happening since 2011. There have been results where we have been wiped out in the series 0-4, 0-4 but the captain hasn’t changed.”

The series that Little Master is talking about is India’s tour of England and Australia (2011/12) and India lost both the series by 0-4 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. In 2012, India lost the home series to England by 1-2 under MSD’s leadership and as Gavaskar said, the skipper was not changed even after getting whitewashed; MS Dhoni left his test captaincy in 2014.

Virat Kohli took over as the Indian test captain after MS Dhoni gave up captaincy and the former is the most successful test captain of India till date. Currently, Rohit Sharma is the skipper of team India and fans are hopeful of winning the ODI World Cup 2023 under his leadership.
