Gaza Schools Hit by Israeli Strikes: Hamas Claims 20 Lives Lost

The Gaza Ministry of Health reports that at least 15 people were killed in a strike on an ambulance convoy in Gaza City on Friday. Although Israel acknowledged that it had struck an ambulance, it claimed without any proof that the target had been Hamas fighters.

According to the ministry, Israel also struck a school that was housing displaced civilians and those fleeing south, killing at least 20 and 14, respectively.

On Friday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken returned from his visit with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. On Saturday, he will go to Jordan to attend a conference with a number of Arab leaders.

Since October 7, Israeli assaults on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 9,227 Palestinians. In Israel, there have been over 1,400 fatalities. Since the start of ground operations in Gaza, at least 24 Israeli troops have lost their lives.

The health ministry in the Palestinian enclave, operated by Hamas, reported early on Saturday that a strike “targeting” a school in northern Gaza resulted in twenty fatalities and several injuries.  

“20 martyrs and dozens of wounded arrived at the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City after the direct targeting of a school turned into a makeshift camp for displaced people in the al-Saftawy area in northern Gaza,” according to a statement from the health ministry.

The school that was specifically targeted by many tank mortar shells was hit, according to the statement.
