Gender inequality: Mother of 3 daughters fights for life in Agra hospital; sues husband who wanted boy child

A woman has sued her husband and family. Ruby, who has three daughters, was allegedly tortured to give birth to a boy child.

A 35-year-old lady is struggling for her life in an Agra hospital after being forced to take drugs and herbal mixtures to conceive a boy. A mother of three girls, the victim had been treated for three months. She called the police about her husband and family’s physical and mental abuse. Her spouse, parents, sister, and brother-in-law are accused.

Ruby married Jagdishpura, Agra’s Ashish Kumar in 2015. Her three daughters were 7, 4, and 1. Husband and in-laws allegedly harassed her for no son. Ruby complained that her relatives made her drink numerous medicines and herbal concoctions.

“I refused, but my husband threatened to leave me if I didn’t take the pills. The drugs were supposed to help me have a boy, Ruby remarked.

The drugs damaged her health, causing both kidneys to fail, according to the FIR. She needed repeated dialysis as her condition worsened. She told her brother Ashu about her ordeal in May. Ruby and her girls relocated to her parents’ residence in Shahganj, Agra district, three months ago due to her declining health.

Her relatives said they tried to register a police report but were ignored. Ruby only filed a FIR on October 29 after contacting Keshav Choudhary, the additional commissioner of police.

“My husband and in-laws left me after kidney problems. “They refused medical expenses and support,” Ruby said. She also claimed dowry harassment from her husband and in-laws.

Shahganj police SHO Alok Singh said the case is under investigated. Complainant medical reports are being reviewed. The FIR covers cruelty, attempt to murder, poisoning, malicious insult, and Dowry Prohibition Act clauses.

This incident shows gender-based prejudice and the intense yearning for a boy in some societies. Once, the victim’s relatives tried to submit a complaint but failed. However, a FIR has been filed and the case is being investigated.

Conclusion

Ruby, a woman who was tortured to conceive a boy, is a terrible example of gender inequality in India. Despite Ruby having three daughters, her husband and in-laws allegedly harassed her for not having a son. They made her drink numerous medicines and herbal mixtures, which destroyed her kidneys.

Ruby’s experience highlights the need to change patriarchal values that favor boys over girls. It also emphasizes the need to empower women and give them a voice against injustice.

An FIR against Ruby’s husband and in-laws is good news. However, the issue must be thoroughly examined and the culprits punished. Ruby also needs top-notch medical treatment and support.

We must collaborate to make all children, regardless of gender, appreciated and respected.

Due to kidney damage from the forced medications, the victim needs repeated dialysis.
