Seventeen years after its release, Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, the 2008 coming-of-age romantic drama starring Genelia D’Souza and Imran Khan, continues to hold a special place in the hearts of audiences. Its heartfelt portrayal of friendship, love, and the journey of self-discovery has fostered long-standing speculation about a potential sequel. Recently, Genelia expressed her eagerness to collaborate with the same team once more.

Speaking with Zoom, the actress acknowledged producer Aamir Khan’s stance on sequels, stating, “He (Aamir) is the producer, and whatever he feels is the right way. I’d love to work with the team and actors again. I’d love to see a coming-of-age love story, but not necessarily Jaane Tu’s Part 2. It could be another project.”

Earlier, Imran Khan, who made his Bollywood debut with Jaane Tu… Ya Jane Na, shared his thoughts on a sequel with HT. He explained, “Jaane Tu was a story about so many people. For my part, it was Jai’s journey from boyhood to manhood. It’s a story of two young individuals maturing, discovering what they want in a partner, and finding their way to love. It all comes together so perfectly that I’m not sure what further you could do to help these characters grow emotionally.”

Directed by Abbas Tyrewala, the film follows the intertwined lives of best friends Jai and Aditi. They initially deny their romantic feelings for each other, but after dating other people, they eventually realize their true love. The movie explores their journey through college and post-college life alongside their close-knit group of friends. The film was also widely praised for its memorable soundtrack, with songs like “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi” and “Pappu Can’t Dance” remaining popular even today.

Meanwhile, Genelia D’Souza is preparing for her Hindi film comeback after a considerable break with the upcoming comedy-drama Sitaare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film also features Aamir Khan in a leading role and is slated for release on June 20.
