Good news for cancer patients: Nearly 1400 cancer screening camps opened; Rs.220 crore cancer research center to be launched

Health minister Ma Subramanian opened 1,397 cancer screening camps, citing increased tannery, dyeing, and rubber plantation cancer cases. A new cancer research center would be launched in Kanchipuram at a cost of Rs.220 crore.

Health minister Ma Subramanian inaugurated 1,397 cancer screening camps in Ranipet, Tirupathur, Kanyakumari, and Erode on Wednesday. The minister launched Erode camps in person, but other districts inaugurated them online.

After the inauguration, the minister told reporters that the four areas had more cancer patients due to the vast number of tanneries, dyeing facilities, and rubber plantations. “People over 18 will be screened at camps,” he said.

Subramanian claimed Karur and Ariyalur residents wanted cancer screening camps. “Their demands will be met quickly. An exclusive cancer research center would be launched in Kanchipuram at a cost of Rs.220 crore, he said.
