Union Minister Anurag Thakur said the government has increased the Ujjwala subsidy to underprivileged women to Rs 300 per cylinder from Rs 200.
The market price of 14.2-kg cylinders is Rs 903. Ujjwala recipients pay Rs 703. They would pay Rs 603 after the Union Cabinet decision.
The Union Cabinet raised PMUY beneficiaries’ LPG cylinder subsidies from Rs 200 to Rs 300 on Wednesday. After a federal cabinet meeting, federal Minister Anurag Thakur told the media that Ujjwala subsidies had increased by Rs 100.
The past nine years have seen much development efforts for women and the impoverished. On the eve of Rakshabandhan last month, residential LPG prices dropped by Rs 200 to Rs 900. He claimed that Ujjwala recipients received Rs 700.
Ujjwala clients would receive Rs 100 per cylinder in subsidies. The Union Cabinet lowered LPG home gas cylinder pricing by Rs 200 for all consumers in August. The ruling reduced the price of a 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi from Rs 1,103 to Rs 903.
Last month, the Union Cabinet extended PMUY for 75 lakh LPG connections from 2023-24 to 2025-26. The 75 lakh Ujjwala connections will bring PMUY beneficiaries to 10.35 crore.
Before five state assembly elections, Ujjawala beneficiaries received an additional subsidy. By year’s end, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana will hold elections.
