During his campaign in Mumbai, Govinda had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. The PM received a photo and a note from the actor.
PM Modi was met by Govinda, who just a few weeks ago made a comeback to politics with Shiv Sena. “Meeting Shri Narendra Modi ji, the Honourable Prime Minister of India, during the campaign in Mumbai was an honour,” he wrote. @narendramodi,
The star had already met Home Minister Amit Shah in April. “Meeting our honourable Minister of Home Affairs of India, respected Amit Shah ji, personally (sic) was an honour,” he had written.
Govinda ran as a Congress candidate for the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat in the 2004 Lok Sabha election. He overcame Ram Naik, a top BJP leader.
But later on, Govinda broke with the Congress party and politics, choosing not to run for office in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
