A case was brought against five defendants in the Kheda region of Gujarat when, according to police, five individuals passed away last month after ingesting methyl alcohol (methanol)-containing Ayurvedic syrup. Three of the five suspects were reportedly being held by the police.
According to police inspector DN Chudasama, in charge of the Nadiad Rural Police Station, a homicide complaint has been made against five individuals: Yogeshbhai Parumal Sindhi of Nadiad; Narayan alias Kishorebhai Sakalbhai Sodha of Bilodara; Ishwarbhai Sakalbhai Sodha; Nitin Kotwani; and Bhavesh Sewakani of Vadodara.
Five persons from the villages of Bagdu and Bilodara reported having chest trouble, and the police said they were sent to the hospital immediately. According to the authorities, the patients passed away on November 28 and 29, and two more became unwell.
Chudasama stated that the bottles were being ordered and marketed under the guise of a therapeutic medication called “Kalmeghasav-Asava Arishta.”
“The syrup present in these bottles contained methyl alcohol, a poisonous substance that causes harmful effects on people’s health,” he stated.
Section 65(A) of the Gujarat Prohibition Act and other parts of the Indian Penal Code were utilized to register the case against the accused.
All five deaths were connected to the syrup’s ingestion, according to an initial inquiry. The syrup was bought from a grocery store in Bilodara hamlet, which is close to Nadiad.
