Hanoi Train Street: The World’s Most Dangerous Selfie Spot Could Finally Shut Down

For years, Hanoi’s Train Street has been one of those rare places where thrill and travel collide. Imagine sitting in a tiny café, sipping coffee, while a train rushes past just inches away, it’s exactly the kind of experience people travel across the world for. But now, that iconic scene may soon change forever.

According to a new proposal by the Hanoi People’s Committee, the city is planning a major shift, not just regulating cafés, but removing trains from the area entirely. Under this plan, southern trains would stop at Hanoi Station, while northern trains would terminate at Gia Lam Station. This would turn the famous stretch between Hanoi and Long Bien stations into a completely train-free zone.

While the excitement of passing trains has always attracted tourists, railway authorities, including Vietnam Railways, have repeatedly raised safety concerns. With growing crowds, the risk has only increased over time.

But the plan is not only about safety. It’s part of a larger vision to transform the area. By the second quarter of 2026, Hanoi aims to take control of the railway space and begin a cultural preservation project. This includes restoring the historic Long Bien Bridge with support from the French Embassy, redeveloping 131 stone arch vaults into a cultural corridor, and creating a heritage link connecting the Old Quarter to the Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

The proposal is currently under review by the Ministry of Construction. If approved, Train Street will evolve from a raw, edgy attraction into a structured cultural and tourism zone—marking the end of an unforgettable experience for many travellers.
