The BCCI has announced their 15-member squad for the big event of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and as they said, it is somewhat similar to the squad which they announced for the Asia Cup 2023.
The notable omissions from the squad were of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin which were also not selected for the Asia Cup 2023. While R Ashwin is out of the Indian limited overs format team for quite some time now, Yuzi is considered as a match-winner in the white ball cricket by many fans and former cricketers.
The former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh was also unhappy with the decision of the umpires and he tweeted, “Surprise not to see @yuzi_chahal in the World Cup squad for Team India. pure Match winner”
During the press conference, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma talked about the team and said that there are no surprises. Here’s what he stated, “There are no surprises and you can get only 15 in. Some of the guys will be disappointed. I have gone through it and I know how it feels. We have good all-round options and this is the best 15 we could get.”
He further added, “I have not thought about plans yet. Problem of plenty is a good problem to have. We have to see who is in form and who our opposition is. We need to see what the best possible combination could be. If someone misses out, then so be it. This keeps happening. You have to make tough calls for the team.”
Do you also feel that Yuzi should have been selected in the team?
