Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has voiced his concerns about the changing approach of spinners in T20 cricket, particularly in the Indian Premier League. He pointed out that many tweakers are now bowling like pacers, focusing solely on restricting runs rather than attacking to take wickets.
With batting-friendly pitches becoming the norm in T20 cricket, spinners have been increasingly forced into a defensive role. Harbhajan believes this trend is detrimental to the art of spin bowling and stressed the need for bowlers to embrace a more aggressive mindset.
“I am sorry to say in T20s or IPL, a lot of spinners are bowling like pacers. They are not spinning the ball. They are not attacking and don’t have the intent of taking wickets. Spinners need to be a little more brave, take chances,” Harbhajan said while speaking on JioHotstar.
The restriction on saliva use, implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, had limited bowlers’ ability to maintain the ball. However, with conditions returning to normal, bowlers will now once again have the option to use saliva to aid their grip and control.
