Harmanpreet Kaur Suspended After Smashing Stumps & Criticising Umpires

The skipper of the Indian women cricket team, Harmanpreet Kaur is getting criticized by many former cricketers because of the manner in which she behaved in the 3rd ODI against Bangladesh and also during the post-match presentation.

In the third ODI between India and Bangladesh which ended in a tie, Harmanpreet Kaur was given lbw out by the umpire but the Indian skipper protested as she felt that the ball had touched the bottom edge of the bat. As there was no DRS available for the complete series, there was no option left for Harmanpreet other than walking to the pavilion. Harmanpreet Kaur wasn’t able to control her frustration and during the post-match presentation, she slammed the umpiring in the series and said that next time the Indian team will come prepared for poor umpiring. It didn’t end here, she asked the umpires to join both the teams in lifting the trophy as they played an important role in tying the series.

Now the ICC has taken a strict action against the Indian skipper, she has been fined 75 percent of the match fees and the ICC has also given four demerit points to her. The four demerit points get converted to two suspension points which means that Harmanpreet Kaur will be suspended from one test match or 2 ODIs or 2 T20Is whichever comes first.

The Indian team will now play in the Asian Games which are going to be held in China and India has straightway made into the quarters based on their ICC rankings. Now India will be playing the quarter final and semi-final (if they are able to win quarters) without their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

What is your take on Harmanpreet Kaur’s behaviour?
