Covid-19: Health experts advise wearing masks after the new XE variant

After the new XE variant of coronavirus was identified, healthcare experts have urged people to keep wearing masks. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya headed over a conference of the country’s major experts on the new variant.

Healthcare professionals have recommended Indian individuals to continue wearing masks freely, despite the fact that Maharashtra and Delhi have withdrawn the Covid restrictions, including the mask compulsion.

Experts have mentioned the emergence of the Covid XE version in other areas of the world as reason for Indian residents to remain vigilant against the dangerous and easily transmitted virus.

According to health professionals, masks are the single most effective intervention against all coronavirus strains.

Meanwhile, Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health Minister headed over a conference of the country’s major experts on the new XE variant’ of coronavirus. The minister urged officials to increase continuing monitoring and surveillance of new variants and cases.

According to a ministry statement, he also directed staff to regularly examine the availability of key pharmaceuticals and medicines required in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

According to the release, the minister also highlighted the importance of continuing the ongoing vaccination programme at full speed and vaccinating all qualified candidates.

The meeting that Mandaviya chaired had the participation of Dr. VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Ayog; Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Health;  Dr. Balrama Bhargava, Director General, ICMR; Dr. Randip Guleria, Director, AIIMS; Dr. N K Arora, chief of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation in India, and other senior health ministry officials.
