Around midnight, two trucks collided on GT Karnal road in Alipur, north Delhi, killing four persons. According to authorities, one of those hurt is in a critical condition.
One of the vehicles was transporting pilgrims known as kanwar yatris to Haridwar. According to the police, a preliminary inquiry revealed that a truck traveling from Haridwar to Delhi lost control as it approached Delhi, over the road barrier, and collided with another truck.
On the truck, there were at least 20 kanwar yatris. Four people perished there and 15 were injured overall. According to a police statement, the remaining yatris are being tracked down. At least four people were killed and 15 others were hurt when a truck that was allegedly traveling too fast jumped a divider at Siraspur on GT Karnal Road and collided with another truck in outer Delhi early on Thursday. The victims were traveling to Haridwar for the annual Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage to collect Ganga waters.
The damage to both trucks indicates how severe the collision was. The other truck’s driver, who over the divider, is on the run. According to the police, traffic has been allowed to move on the road. A case has been filed, and further investigation is ongoing.
According to the investigation conducted on the scene, the other vehicle traveling in the direction of Delhi jumped the centre line of the highway and collided with the truck carrying kanwariyas (pilgrims) in the opposite carriageway. Of the 20 to 23 kanwariyas involved in the incident, at least 19 suffered injuries. Four of the 14 injured patients who were transported to Satyawadi Raha Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela were later pronounced dead.
