Pat Cummins, captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined ₹12 lakh by the Indian Premier League authorities following his team’s triumph over Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday night. Despite the win, SRH were found in violation of the IPL’s over-rate regulation, prompting a financial penalty under Article 2.22 of the league’s Code of Conduct.

Confirming the decision, the IPL released a statement on Saturday stating, “As it was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Cummins was fined INR 12 Lakh.”

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, this win marked only their fifth in twelve matches, bringing their total to 11 points and leaving them in eighth place on the IPL 2025 standings. Their elimination from playoff contention had already been confirmed, casting a shadow over what has been a disappointing campaign for last season’s runners-up.

Reflecting on the game during the post-match presentation, Cummins acknowledged the team’s late resurgence. “Little bit too late this season but good all-round effort with both bat and ball. Now that Nitish is back bowling, does feel like we’ve a genuine sixth bowler. Abhishek’s always telling me that he’s a good option and I should use him,” he said, hinting at what could have been a more balanced unit earlier in the tournament.

While the penalty underscores the importance of maintaining game tempo, Cummins’ leadership and candid reflection suggest a team still determined to finish strong despite the missed opportunity.
