The IPL 2025 encounter between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, scheduled at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, May 6, came to an abrupt and unprecedented halt after just 10.1 overs due to air raid alerts in the nearby cities of Jammu and Pathankot. The interruption, initially thought to be due to a floodlight malfunction, turned out to be part of a broader security situation that may now jeopardize the remainder of the tournament.

At the time of the stoppage, Punjab Kings were in a commanding position, scoring 122 for the loss of just one wicket. Prabhsimran Singh had reached 50 off 28 balls, while his opening partner Priyansh Arya had already contributed a blistering 70 off 34 deliveries before being dismissed by T. Natarajan. It was during this high-octane innings that the lights went out, triggering confusion that soon escalated into a security alert.

“There was no panic from the spectators. They (spectators and players) were moved out of the stadium very carefully and safely,” a Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association source was quoted as saying by PTI.

The 23,000 fans present were quickly evacuated along with the players, amid rising tension that even saw anti-Pakistan slogans being chanted outside the venue. The players and staff from both teams are now being transported to Delhi via a special train departing from Pathankot, approximately 85 kilometers from Dharamsala, after reaching there by road.

With airports in Dharamsala, Kangra, and Chandigarh shut down as a precaution, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently in emergency discussions. Unconfirmed reports suggest that several foreign players are keen to return home, placing the continuity of the tournament in serious doubt.
