In a recent interview with a leading publication, Tarun Mansukhani, the director of Housefull 5, offered his perspective on the widely reported demand by Deepika Padukone for an 8-hour workday, especially since becoming a mother.

Mansukhani expressed his understanding and justification for such a request, while emphasizing the crucial need for it to be clearly stipulated in the contract before filming begins. He even quipped about his own desire to spend time with his dog, drawing a parallel to the personal lives of actors.

“I want to go home and spend time with my dog, and I understand the feeling,” Tarun Mansukhani remarked. “But you have to put it in the contract so that everyone is prepared.” He stressed that once a film commences production, numerous other factors come into play, including the intricate schedules of other actors, securing location permissions, and managing the budget.

Addressing Deepika Padukone’s reported 8-hour work request directly, he articulated, “No problem. Eight hours? I’ll need that many extra days, and then we’ll go ahead, but you need to tell me in advance. You can’t come to me at 11 am and tell me you need to leave at 5. There are other actors involved; the location for the day might not be available again, or the budget might not allow it.”

For those unaware, Deepika Padukone was reportedly removed from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit due to an inability to meet her demands, which allegedly included an 8-hour workday (amounting to a 6-hour shoot time) and a remuneration exceeding Rs 20 crore.

Despite this, several prominent figures in the industry, including Ajay Devgn and Mani Ratnam, have voiced their support for Deepika’s reported request for an 8-hour shift.
