Following the Reserve Bank of India’s mandate, IHMCL advises highway users to get FASTags from 32 recognized banks instead of PPBL. After March 15, FASTags cannot be recharged. Options include deactivation and purchase.
The toll-collecting arm of the state-owned National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Indian Highways Management Company Ltd. (IHMCL), recommended highway users to get FASTags from 32 recognized banks instead of Paytm Payments Bank. According to the RBI, PPBL must stop taking customer deposits and top-ups after February 29, then extended until March 15. Paytm FASTags will stop working.
The RBI’s FAQs state that PPBL FASTags cannot be recharged after March 15. As indicated, users can close their FASTags and request a refund to avoid annoyance.
Follow these procedures on Paytm’s website to deactivate a FASTag:
Provide the FASTag mobile number and Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) or Tag ID to 1800-120-4210.
In the Paytm app, go to the profile icon, click "Help & Support" under "Banking Services & Payments," choose "FASTag," and chat with customer care to deactivate.
Users can download the “My FASTag” app, click “Buy FASTag” to access an e-commerce link, pay, and wait for delivery to buy a new FASTag online. The “My FASTag” software lets users choose Amazon or Flipkart, enter the FASTag ID or scan the QR code, provide vehicle details, and activate the new FASTag online.
Toll plazas and member banks including Airtel Payments Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and State Bank of India sell FASTags, according to the NHAI website.
