HP, Google to jointly produce Chromebooks in India, support ‘Make in India’ initiative

HP, a popular computer and printer maker, is working with Google to make Chromebooks in India supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Since August 2020, HP has made laptops and desktops at the Flex Facility near Chennai, where these Chromebooks will be made. HP Chromebooks will be produced on October 2 to provide affordable PCs for Indian education.

HP India Senior Director-Personal Systems Vickram Bedi said producing Chromebook laptops in India will help Indian students afford PCs. This supports the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ drive.

Chromebooks help nearly 50 million students and teachers globally, according to the company. They run ChromeOS, which provides easy accessibility and strong security, especially in educational contexts.

“The local production of Chromebooks with HP marks an important step in our efforts to support the digital transformation of education in India,” said Bani Dhawan, Google’s Education-South Asia Head.

HP has been making EliteBooks, ProBooks, and G8 series laptops in India from December 2021. They’ve also included Intel and AMD processors to their locally built commercial computers to meet customer needs.

HP and Google’s collaboration promotes the ‘Make in India’ effort and gives Indian students easier access to inexpensive and reliable PCs, which are essential for their education in the digital age.
