Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency marks her second directorial venture after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. However, like her first outing, this project too became entangled in numerous controversies. Initially slated for release in September last year, the film’s debut was delayed after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) withheld its clearance, citing unmet certification requirements and demanding specific cuts.
Adding to the complications, Punjab’s Shiromani Akali Dal sent a legal notice to the CBFC seeking to block the film’s release, alleging that it could “incite communal tensions” and “spread misinformation, hatred, and social discord.”
In an interview, Kangana Ranaut opened up about the challenges she faced during this tumultuous period. Reflecting on the experience, she revealed a significant shift in her perspective. “I’m never making a political film again. I’m not very motivated. It’s so difficult to make one. I now understand why not many people do it, especially on real-life characters,” she admitted candidly.
While acknowledging the excellence of political dramas, Kangana praised Anupam Kher’s performance in The Accidental Prime Minister, where he portrayed former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, calling it one of his finest performances. However, she reiterated her own decision to steer clear of such projects in the future. “If you ask me, I’m never doing it again,” she stated emphatically, signaling the end of her foray into politically charged storytelling.
