IIT Guwahati to launch School of Medical Science for MTech, PhD

IIT Guwahati will launch a school of medical science for MTech, PhD programs. GATE 2022 will admit the first batch of 20 MTech candidates in the field of Biomedical Science and Engineering to IIT Guwahati.

Guwahati’s Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will establish a School of Health Sciences and Technology. According to an IIT Guwahati release, the new school will offer MTech and PhD programs in Health Sciences and Technology and will attempt to advance cutting-edge research in medicines, diagnostics, stem cells, public health, and health data analytics.

The ‘Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology’ will be established at IIT Guwahati in conjunction with the Mehta Family Foundation (MFF) of Houston, Texas, USA.

This new school at IIT Guwahati will begin classes in the current academic year.

“New Master’s and PhD programs in Health Sciences and Technology will be offered by the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology. The new programs will be available beginning this school year.”

When Mehta Family Foundation’s CEO Rahul Mehta was asked about its vision, he said, “This multidisciplinary research and education institution will stimulate innovation in new areas at the forefront of the healthcare revolution in order to produce sustainable solutions to enhance people’s healthcare in India.”

This new multi-disciplinary program in Health Sciences and Technology at IIT Guwahati was created in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The NEP pushes for the construction of a comprehensive academic curriculum to develop the country’s top skills via both pedagogical and hands-on training. The new curriculum will stress expanding training in both theoretical and hands-on perspectives, allowing the development of academic leaders with a strong scientific basis as well as the capacity to transfer ideas into biomedical innovations.

According to IIT Guwahati, the newly established school aims to train students in topics related to Health Science and Technology, with an emphasis on courses from other science and engineering disciplines such as Biosciences and Bioengineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, and Design.
